Assay for detecting the presence of antibodies to feline corona-virus, the causative agent of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)

The FCoV ELISA Cat is ideally suited to replace the time-consuming and labor-intensive immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT) commonly used in the diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) in cats.

The FCoV ELISA Cat detects both serotype I and serotype II targeted antibodies. The incubation period for FIP is variable and can take weeks to months. Seroconversion develops in experimental infections after 10 days.

Antibody prevalence against FCoV (5-15% in single animal husbandry) is higher, the more cats are kept together (up to 80%).

The validation of the FCoV ELISA Cat revealed a sensitivity of 96.5% with a specificity of 97.7% when including a total of 651 cat sera.
