Leishmania-ELISA Dog

Enzyme immunoassay for the detection of IgG antibodies to the pathogen of leishmaniosis, Leishmania infantum

The enzyme immunoassay detects specific anti-Leishmania IgG antibodies in serum samples of dogs.

The test is based on soluble antigens prepared from Leishmania infantum, the main pathogenic agent of canine leishmaniosis in the Mediterranean area.

The assay is able to detect specific antibodies in 88.4 – 100 (95% confidence interval) of Leishmania infected dogs (30 sera). Test specificity is 86.3% - 99.5% with regard to healthy dogs of different breeds (50 sera). A few cross reactions may be recorded in dogs suffering from other parasitic diseases (three positive reactions in a panel of 26 sera from dogs with babesiosis, toxoplasmosis, neosporosis or hepatozoonosis, but unknown history of leishmaniosis).
